Using Bitcoin Data:
To display Bitcoin (BTCUSD) charts in Gannalyst, follow these steps:
Step 1: Download CSV File
- Obtain the Bitcoin .csv file from the Forex Metatrader 4 Platform by opening a demo account.
- After installing MetaTrader, log in with your details. In the market watch section, select Bitcoin (BTC/USD) from the symbol list.
Step 2: Setup MetaTrader
- Go to the “Tools” option in the menu bar and select “History Center.”
- In the History Center, choose BTCUSD from the instrument list, select the desired time frame, and click the download button.
Step 3: Export Data
- After the download is completed, review the historical data.
- Click “Export” to save this data as a .csv file. If saving permission is restricted, save the file on your desktop and then copy it to the intended location.

Step 4: Configuring CSV Data
Ensure your CSV file is properly formatted for Gannalyst. The date format in MetaTrader (e.g., “2018.01.11”) may need to be adjusted to Gannalyst’s format (e.g., “2018/01/11”) using Excel. Save the properly formatted file as a .csv.

Setting Up Your Chart
- Create New Portfolio:
- Open Gannalyst and create a new portfolio.
- Select Data File:
- In the “Data File” tab, choose the .csv file you configured.
- Adjust Settings:
- Follow the steps outlined in the Gannalyst interface. Pay attention to the addition of an option after “date,” which arises due to the “Time” field in the MetaTrader CSV file for hourly charts.
- Select the appropriate date format for the time axis.
- Click “Test Data Read” to ensure proper data display. If the data displays correctly, save the format.
- Load Chart:
- Restart the software, then click on the “BTCUSD60.csv” file in the data tab. Your chart should load successfully.
Final Thoughts:
Gannalyst requires manual data collection and import, which can be time-consuming. It lacks automated updates, and using live feeds involves additional costs. However, its robust W.D. Gann features make it a valuable tool for long-term traders, with accuracy best verified through real-world market conditions.
